It's rapidly approaching the time of year when we move some of our colonies of bees to the heather on the North Yorkshire Moors. This year, we've been fortunate in having a farmer give us unrivalled access to the heather on his 12,000 acre spread. He will get his reward by way of the premium honey we will provide him with!
This is one of three suitable locations where we can keep our bees and all of which are south facing with stone walls to protect the bees from any northerly winds. Beekeepers refer to the location of their hives on the heather as a "stance".
Time now to get supers and bees ready for the migration!
